Happy Friday, Oppo. We made it. Time to relax with a tasty beverage and some good tunes.

Local apple/cherry cider. Absolutely delicious.

I really want an old fashioned, but this crappy excuse for “spring” has my enjoyment on hold. Being on call to throw salt and adult beverages don’t mix well.

Wee heavier scotch ale. French broad river brewery... except this isn’t my Friday :/

Found at my local gas station lol. Still fresh too!

I stopped by the not as good local brewery (I was in the area) and had an IPA. It was solidly drinkable.
Last song:
I’m just hanging out the doggies tonight. If start listening to something like Townes Van Zandt or John Prine, I might have to pour a glass a scotch.

Here in PA we’re in for some wintry mix even though it was 60 today. Madness.

Maybe it’s an early case for Fall 2018.
A few years ago I was in Boston and toured the Sam Adams Brewery. Nice place.

Am I niche enough?

I’ll bet that cider is tasty.
Thanks for sharing that song. I liked it. It’s giving me an oddly specific feeling: driving around a large city, just as the sun is rising and people are starting to wake up. The streets are still mostly empty, and it’s warm enough to have your windows down but there’s a bit of chill in the air.
Damn this beer is good.

Yeah, we were 58 and sunny when I left work at 4:30.
Now it’s 11:15 and it’s 32 and raining.

Nothing wrong with a blue moon.

It is indeed tasty. It was either that or New Belgium’s take on the New England-Style hazy IPA, called Juicy Haze. I bought it last week at Target. There are two Richmond breweries (The Veil and The Answer) that specialize in that style, but New Belgium did it very well as well.
And glad you like the song as well.

That’s a solid tune.

I haven’t tried Juicy Haze yet but NB makes some good stuff. A few summers ago I was buying Fat Tire cans, 15 for $16. Life was good.

New Belgium Accumulation because its effing snowing again.
I am unbelievably happy to have tomorrow off. 60 hours already this week, I’m done.

Nothing yet. Thanks for reminding me. brb...

Something about your song reminded me of this song:

I found these guys via youtube recommendation, and now they’re one of my favorite bands. I guess sometimes the giant algorithm in the cloud knows best.

60 hours?! Oh man. So how’s the new job?
![]() 04/06/2018 at 23:42 |

Yeah, they do. Richmond (and Virginia in general) is so spoiled with in-state craft beer options that I don’t often check out the “big” craft names, aside from Stone who have a brewery here. But a few years ago I tried quite a few New Belgium beers and have liked them all. This one is by far my favorite, but I’m also a huge fan of this style. I’ll probably have one tomorrow, so I’ll take a photo for you.

Alive! I was going to do a post but wanted to include a photo from the paperwork they gave me except I left it in the car.
The car just pretty much couldn’t even anymore either. I knew I should’ve just disconnected the battery.

They have the same uplifting vibe. I actually used to have a friend who was a mutual friend with Porter, but we lost touch.

Rhubarb cider, listening to System of a Down, working on some car projects. Much needed de-stressing time

Nothing new, just the middle of competitive season for band and trying to work through a team transition in the real job that temporarily left me in charge of twice as many people as normal. One week to go!

Wow, I’ve never known an algorithm to actually be helpful. We’ll here’s my beer influenced non-scientific algorithm: if you like them, maybe you’d like this? Maybe not?

Nice. Which SOAD album? I always loved self titled.

I got hooked on Spitfire. He’s definitely evolved his sound but I’ve enjoyed the ride.

Toxicity. I liked self titled as well. If you haven’t, look up “SOAD Storaged Melodies”. It’s a compilation album of unreleased songs, a few soundtrack works, and other SOAD songs that are hard to find elsewhere. Some reaaaaally good stuff

I’m glad it’s alive. I drive the watered down version of your car. I bought a 2012 Fiat 500 Sport last year for when I can’t drive my Miata. The Abarth was out of my price range.

Thanks for the tip. Toxicity was also a solid album.

You’re also not too far from NC, home of many tasty beers.
![]() 04/06/2018 at 23:55 |

Cool. I dig it. They’re certainly more rock focused than most of the Americana/folk stuff I’ve been listening to the last couple of years, but that isn’t a bad thing.
![]() 04/06/2018 at 23:56 |

Indeed. Asheville and Charlotte in particular are huge but there are good breweries all over that state too. I’ve been looking for an excuse to visit Raleigh, as well.

You just need to find one with a lot of hail damage. They noted “numerous small dents” on my full car checkup
It’s funny, because I spent a few days on Craigslist wondering what I would do if there was something major wrong (as you do) but once I got behind the wheel again I don’t know what I was thinking.

I’m happy with what I got. I have my 94 Miata for fun driving. The Fiat is 5 years old with 55k miles and an automatic. Sometimes I want to drive stick. Sometimes I don’t.

I live in Eastern NC for 5 years. Check out Mother Earth Brewing in Kinston.

Asheville is fantastic. If I had gotten a job there I’d still be in NC.

They’ve got a handful of solid albums. Most of it is on youtube at this point. Great summer night driving music.

Fair :) I’d buy a Miata in a heartbeat if it was a coupe! (I know, I know, but convertibles are one of those things that sound good on paper but then I remember my hair)

I actually had some Sisters of the Moon a few years ago. I liked it.
I have a friend who recently moved from here to the Asheville area. Between her, the Dragon, and the beer, I have a very good reason to go there.

Guinness. No picture necessary unless you’re a useless tool that doesn’t know what a Guinness looks like. Did I mention I drink Guinness when I’m in a bad mood? I think I’ll have another Guinness and not take a picture of it. Carry on.

I was hooked pretty quickly. I don’t love the sun, but all it takes is one summer drive at night in the open air and there’s no turning back. Plus, that thing handles like it’s on rails. I’ve gone driving through West Virginia on mountain roads and it’s amazing.
My current rides:
They are very different cars that serve very different purposes.

I hope that the Guinness improves your mood. If not, have another one and try again.

Where do the dogs sit? (We were debating the merits of various ciders last night)
![]() 04/07/2018 at 00:24 |

I can’t speak for the Miata but the Fiat back seat is perfect for my dog because if the front passenger seat is all the way back she can’t fall off when I brake.

I had a free Coors Light and a free PBR. Both of which were terrible

At least the price was right.

Olive does fine on the backseat of the Fiat, although she’d rather be up front on the heated seat. I try not to take her in the Miata for safety reasons, but she’ll curl up on the passenger seat and be fine. The Fiat is surprisingly roomy for such a small car. I’m a big guy (short, but big) and I can sit in the back of the Fiat.

The Family Portrait makes you look like a Tall Human. Please congratulate the photographer :-)
(Also, that is quite a zippy car and a friend & I were just discussing what’s turning into the nostalgia of driving stick. Often when I was out with my gfs in college and we were borrowing a big brother’s car I’d get to drive because I was the only one who could drive a stick. :-))
![]() 04/07/2018 at 00:45 |

Me? Tall? Ha! I’m 5'6" on a good day. It might just be that I have a long torso and really short legs. Like every pair of jeans in a department store is too long, but I have to buy shirts that are extra tall. It’s an odd situation.
Driving stick is a dying art. There’s something to be said for driving as an experience, not just as a means of transportation. When I’m on a twisty mountain road I’m locked in to the driving experience, and I love it.

Like every pair of jeans in a department store is too long, but I have to buy shirts that are extra tall. It’s an odd situation.
Not that odd. Every ladyperson you know (including self) has a “buying pants” story. I have the opposite problem (short torso, long legs, long arms that accidentally graze the mirror in Pilates & make the prancy owner look at me funny) so every single pair is gap-waisted high-waters and I spend too much money on belts and getting things tailored. Don’t get me started.
![]() 04/07/2018 at 00:56 |

Until I worked at a job that had a dress code, I dealt with the pants issue by wearing shorts year round (even here in PA when it would snow). At least that way I only have to worry about waist size. Not exactly stylish, but as a Big Guy, I’m very limited in what I can buy anyway.

I made a lazy latte. A long shot of espresso plus a spoonful of condensed milk.
